GCN: The Gamma-ray Coordinates Network (TAN: Transient Astronomy Network)
ALERT (20-Sep-2018 12:00 UT):
GCN was off-line from 06:55 to 11:31 UT (4.6 hrs) due to a power failure in the building in which GCN is housed.
The UPS for the GCN maintained power through the 3 interruptions in that window,
but the building-level power and UPS's for the netwark router closets was insufficient.
The GCN system distributes:
These two functions provide a one-stop shopping network for follow-up sites
and GRB and transient researchers.
Locations of GRBs and other Transients (the Notices) detected by spacecraft (most in real-time while the burst is still bursting and
others are that delayed due to telemetry down-link delays).
Reports of follow-up observations (the Circulars) made by
ground-based and space-based optical, radio, X-ray, TeV, and other particle observers.
The GCN system can be explored using the links above and below.
